Took my Own Advice About Healing Heartbreak Excerpt from Book

The following is an excerpt from Heartbreak: Know Why and Heal

The Power of Ritual in Healing Heartbreak

Ritual is the key to healing here. Let me explain what I mean by “ritual”. In this case it is engaging in healing activities with consistency and regularity. This is key and crucial. This bears repeating. In order to break old patterns and habits, it is required that we engage in ongoing, conscious repetition of healthy, new, simple, doable habits to replace the old ones. Like anything new, there are times we cannot sustain the consistency. This can be very discouraging. But guess what? You can jump back in at any time you wish and as little or much as you want. None of this is a straight line strategy. It is trial and error, back and forth, climbing back on the horse kinda healing. It will work; time and practice is all you need. That’s why I provide different tools and strategies. One or more is bound to bring relief. You will see techniques including mantras, which are very powerful, prayers, a releasing ceremony, physical movements, meditations, and cleansings.

Choose a technique. Try not to do them all at once, because it can be overwhelming and you are already in pain. Once you choose one, try it for some time. Give yourself reminders at first. Try any of these techniques or come up with your own:

Voice recordings on phone or mobile device
Good old fashion sticky notes (physical ones as well as electronic ones)
Self texts/emails to self
On white boards at home or private space or use a private in public boards
Use these excellent apps like Evernote, Coach.me, or Moodpanda to help you keep track of it all

Make this a priority because no one is more important than you. If you have loved ones you put first, I understand, but you can’t care for them if you are not in good health and have self love (I will say over and over again). Once you have tried one of the techniques, you can move on to another one. There is no set order. Use one which resonates with you at a given time and try it until you feel relief. Results differ from person to person, hence I would suggest you try each one for at least two weeks before moving on to another one.

Before choosing a technique, do the super basics which are listed below. They are simple, but so very important. Use whichever reminder style works for you to do these self-healing moves.
Sip water throughout the day Sometimes gulping it is too much and not necessary to stay hydrated. Drink as much as your body specifically requires. You can drink as much as you need by sipping throughout the day. If you are worried about going to the restroom too much, remember this is small issue compared to the benefit of being hydrated.

Breathe consciously Breathing is one of those amazing automatic things our bodies do to keep us alive, But the magic lies in that you can also use your mind to breathe consciously. The frequency, depth and quality of breath can be controlled by us. Remember to breathe, deeply, mindfully.

Check your posture It’s amazing how our body shows our distress by literally shrinking when we slouch, or curve our backs, go to fetal position etc. as a self protection mechanism. However, this inadvertently prevents chi, prana life-source energy from circulating fully within our body more on this on the yoga , chakra center. Grounding You hear about grounding all the time regarding meditation, yoga and other modalities. But what does it really mean? Like many of these practices there are various ways of grounding ranging from simple to quite complex. For purposes of simplicity and efficiency I include here the basics and simplest forms. I leave it up to you to find more advanced methods should you need or want them. Grounding takes us back to our basic connection to our physical being, since we are here on earth right now. We are ruled by gravity a most amazing and mysterious force. Wherever you may be on the planet, creating an awareness of where you are and what is underneath you is the first step. Digging our feet into the ground, feel the wonderful pull of our planet that keeps us from floating away.

We can’t always go to a forest to connect with the earth, so sometimes we have to improvise. I had to since I lived in the middle of a super populated, metal city. So simply sitting on the floor on a yoga mat, pillow, rug, or whatever is comfortable and doing some basic moves, like stretches, easy yoga poses and simple sitting and feeling the floor beneath me does wonders. Even touching sinks knowing the pipes go down into the earth can help you feel grounded, as odd as it may sound.

Centering The process of centering is similar to grounding. Some use it interchangeably so, but there are differences. In centering, you are centering with yourself. You are centering your body, your mind, thoughts and spirit. Where is this mysterious center? It’s your spinal cord and its corresponding energy centers. Your physical brain and spinal cord is where you take your thoughts and energy. Your etheric energy is all around and within you but your center is the core. The best way to do this is conscious breathing and envisioning your main chakra centers, as described in the next chapter of the book you can get on Amazon.
