De-Bunking The Reasons Not to Workout

Remember in a recent post I listed reasons NOT to workout? Well, I'm re-listed below. Those are some of the reasons why we don’t engage in a fitness program. But what do we do now? How can we work around all these reasons and excuses so that we can live a healthy life? Maybe, just maybe, if we begin taking these reasons and de-bunk them we can be on our way to truly changing the way to live.
Last time I promised we would put reasons to workout and be active in our own fitness life. So we are including some reasons which I’m sure you are aware of, as a reminder of what’s at stake when we talk health and fitness.
Let’s begin with de-bunking.

__TOO BUSY. This one is doozy. Most of us are no stranger to “busy-ness”. But ask yourself this; is there anything more important than the physical vehicle that carries you through this life? Probably not. Therefore, making, creating, and finding the time for fitness is possible and do-able and completely up to you. This Working Things Out newsletter tries to incorporate workout moves you can do in sets or while doing other activities. Ideally, with time it is best to give yourself the gift of time to workout. But while you are working on getting there the moves we provide can be done almost anywhere and anytime. Why not give yourself the chance to try some of these if you haven’t already?

__TOO TIRED. This is my personal Achilles heel. It’s almost impossible to exercise when one is tired. Ultimately however, making the effort to workout will lead to more energy, not less. Starting with short workouts can be a starting point. Even five minutes of doing squats can begin to prepare the body for more time in the future for that and other fitness moves.

__BORED. Many people claim they get bored when they workout. One possible solution is to find a particular fitness style that challenges them or an activity that is both interesting to them and has health benefits. Whether you workout at home or in the gym there are lots of tips to make your sessions interesting. You can check fitness magazines, consult with a personal trainer, like Vinny for ideas and check local gyms for strategies they use and implement them yourself. For an example of a simple yet effective motivator, you can see how music adds fuel to most individual’s fitness sessions. Many fitness magazines and online newsletters offer tips on particular songs or music genres you can use for specific types of workouts.

__NOT MOTIVATED. This is also a challenged and can have multiple reasons. Fear, lack of strategy and impatience can be reasons not to feel motivated. One of the ways to combat this is to find support from friends, love ones, or like-minded persons. Even on the computer you can find health communities that can help you get that “umph” to get started.

__NO SUPPORT FROM OTHERS. As you can see from above, computer communities can be a starting point. Another way is to ask friends, co-workers, family and other persons that show a similar interest. If you find someone in your life is not being supportive, you are not obligated to share you goals with them. You can either find another way of communicating to them that you desire their support or choose to find another resource to reach out to. It is your body and you ought to be the one who chooses how to best care for you.

__LACK OF STRATEGY. This can be combated by doing a tiny bit of research and creating routines and setting goals. To help you with this are again, personal trainers, coaches, online communities and even health professionals.

__MY BODY HURTS. It is always advised that you check with a physician to make sure you can engage in physical exercise. There is almost always something that can be done, whether it’s simple stretching, physical therapy, strength training (varying in intensity), yoga, etc. Make sure you have no injuries and expect to have slight soreness once you do begin any new physical routine. It is also very important to perform specific moves correctly to prevent injuries.

__IT DOESN’T WORK. Not seeing results is usually caused using incorrect workout strategies, not eating appropriately, illness, unhealthy habits or even being impatient. First, check with a physician to see what type of fitness routine you should engage in. Next, consult a personal trainer and/or nutritionist to assess where you are in your fitness goals. Then, and this is important, give it time to work.

__I’M TOO OLD. This one is just a plain myth. Anyone at any age can exercise. Just consult with a professional first to see what fitness routine is best for you. Many “older” adults reaching up to their 80’s and beyond are in better shape than many children and young adults.

__I DON’T NEED IT BECAUSE I AM NATURALLY FIT. Even people who are naturally slim can have many unhealthy habits and lifestyles. This can lead to illnesses, risk of future diseases like cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, cancer, and many more. Being healthy is a lifestyle. This includes health screenings, if money provides, of course, a healthy diet, not smoking, sun protection, keeping hydrated, reducing or managing stress, living a balanced life, not drinking alcohol or drinking in moderation.

__IT’S TOO EXPENSIVE. This is true if you are not creative and fall for the hype that fitness can only be attained by joining an expensive gym. Fitness can be attained and not necessary affect your bottom-line in a negative way. In fact, you may be saving yourself and untold amount of money by avoiding illness and other maladies.

__NO OR LITTLE SPACE. This is another challenge that can be overcome. Specific moves can be done virtually anywhere and require very little space. This is something I, Diana, have much experience with. Again, a little creativity and determination is all that is really required.

Fitness is a way of life not a temporary activity performed for special events like swimsuit season or holiday parties. But as we like to emphasis it takes small, gradual changes to make the transition to a healthy life long-lasting. Be kind to yourself if you backslide and know you can ALWAYS start over. The only one judging you is you. Now, as promised, a reminder that next month we’ll have reasons to work out that should serve as motivators.

Improving Your Career/Work with Feng Shui

Feng Shui is the ancient art of placement. According to this ancient and effective practice, moving certain objects in your environment affects you very directly positively or negatively.

Here is an opportunity to give this incredible philosophical and practical process a try. Many people, too many, are incredibly unhappy in their careers and jobs. To gain clarity and ignite the fires of positive change, let’s concentrate on our career corner. Many careers are tied to our ultimate purpose during our lives. When combined, work CAN be play and life is enjoyable and livable; not just bearable. We will use the word “career” which will include profession, purpose and life’s work. Now, let’s give this a go.

Check our reliable bagua, and find your career area. As in any other area, you can have multiple career spaces. For example, you can have one in your office space and another in your home as a whole or within one of your rooms. As with your other areas you can have your career area in a small space like a desk. We will continue to emphasize that the point is the intent and energy you use within that space is what matters. You can usually find your career area on the “north” corner geographically speaking or your personal lower, middle/center spot of any of your spaces.

Once you’ve identified your career area, you can create and make adjustments that work for you. We can’t say it enough but the more creative you are and fun you have, the more enjoyable and effective it will be.

Use the our Bagua as a guide. Let’s review examples of what we can use.

You can place objects and use colors which are of various deep tones such as deep blue, black, in this space. The color white can indeed also be used as well as metal as a secondary element.

Items that symbolize what YOU identify as professional success and happiness which are balanced with the rest of your life are strongly recommended. Try to use what is for your highest and greater good and what is truly meant for you. Symbols like fish, seascapes can be placed here. Also, conditions and ideals that are of personal significance can be used. For instance, you can put on a piece of paper pictures or written words of ideal salary, working conditions, schedule style, travel or lack of it, etc. Use general descriptions of qualities you want as well as values.

The element for this space is WATER. You can use a small water fountain or clear/white bowl of water in your corner too. Have fun and be creative.

As always remember not to let the North, South, East, West directions confuse you. You simply go by the bagua and the space you are in. Not the outside world. So for instance when you enter a room or are looking at a specific space, see yourself in the center of the map. In front is Recognition, reputation and fame, to your right in the upper corner is romantic relationship, to you right/center is family, right lower corner helpful people, etc.

You can always check http://www.workingthingsout.com/Home_1.html for more information.

Reasons NOT to Workout

With increase of the use of Intuition, we can't help but want to change old unhealthy habits and live a healthier lifestyle. But it is helpful to look at why it takes time for us to establish healthy habits like engaging in a physical fitness program which can and does help in our mind-body-spirit alignment. With a healthier body, we activate and move energy called my many names--prana, chi, life force--through our system and heighten our overall frequency.

So, what stops us from working out? There are so many reasons why working out and a fitness routine gets put on the back burner. How many on the list below look familiar to you? I’m willing to bet there are some I have forgotten to list. Perhaps you can email us and we can add them to our list.

With what we have listed below you can begin to identify the reasons you don’t make your health and body a priority. Once you do this you can take a deeper look at your own specific situations and ask yourself, are these reasons I don’t practice fitness really valid? Is there a way around these obstacles so you can find a way to place priority on this miraculous vehicle you inhabit—your body?

Can you identify which reason(s) prevent you from working out?

__Too Busy
__Too Tried
__Bored
__Not Motivated
__No Support From Others
__Lack of Strategy
__My Body Hurts
__It Doesn’t Work
__I’m Too Old
__I Don’t Need To Because I’m Naturally Fit
__It’s Too Expensive

Trust me, most of us struggle with several of these on the regular basis. This is why some people require multiple incentives to begin and stay with a fitness program. Some need the support of their family and friends, others thrive in competition, while others prefer to perform their activities in solitude.

I think beginning with small steps works well with many so let’s start there by working at your own pace and following some of the moves a personal trainer can provide for you. We also include that fitness routine includes eating healthy, not smoking, and drinking moderately. But as we said earlier, let’s start with baby steps, one move at a time and work our way up.

Diana Introduces Intuition on Video

Diana speaks about how we all have intuition, what intuition is and how we can begin to use and re-use this powerful too we all have inside of us.

A Thank You singing to You Video

Singing "Our Love is Here to Stay" as thank you for celebrating my life. http://ping.fm/MYPkW

Always Welcome Gratitude

There is a lot of hype in the self-help world about creating abundance and the law of attraction. Because of this, it’s easy to become desensitized to what really works in the art of manifesting. The real secret is good ol’ Gratitude.

Is it magic? No. Is it a miracle? YES! Becoming mindful (self-and-other aware) entails acknowledging the beautiful, simple, wonderful things we all have in our lives. From a Multi-millionaire to a working class person, the individual striving for a fulfilled, higher frequency life can see miracles manifested by simply being thankful for all that is good and life-enhancing, including hardship and life lessons.

To take a second-that’s all it takes-to consider what to say Thank You for. The glory comes right back to you for simply naming what to be thankful for, feeling that gratitude and making this of your new habits in life.

Want some examples? What about the meals you had today? The air in your lungs? The water you drank (and if you didn’t then go get some now and hydrate your glorious body), the smile you are able to make (even if you had a root canal), the senses that function within you (the fact that you are able to read this and I hope to be able to bring this information to the seeing-impaired soon), for things that make us laugh, the healing process—you know I can go on forever but that would deprive you from your own process. What can you come up with to be thankful for?

I discovered this web site I just began using. I don’t use it super often, but it truly reminds me to say “thank you” when I become accustomed to my other reminders (e.g. calendar alerts, sticky pads, etc.)

http://www.GratitudeLog.com/join/diananavarro

I'm sure there are other great websites out there with affirmations or other reminders, so please feel free to share them with me and others. Remember, there is only ONE and no other, sharing is true abundance.

Spiritual Awakening Begets New Habits and More

Sit back and enjoy listening to the show available On-Demand on Intuition and in this case how Spiritual Awakening urges us to create life enhancing habits.

I have included a link to my radio show broadcasted on July 6th 2010. Among several topics, I talk about:

1. How your physical body is related to your intuition.

2. For those who are experiencing a spiritual awakening or have had one often have “side effects” that may require support of some sort. Sometimes because of these new feelings experienced one can have what is called a spiritual emergency or crisis. It is important to know what you are experiencing. Unexpectedly, one of the side affects might be heightened compassion and what to do with that new feeling of empathy.

3. Another side effect or consequence is the strong desire to change previously established bad habits into healthier life-enhancing ones. I talk a little about why it’s challenging to change some of these habits but how they are warranted in order to live an enriched, joy-filled life.

I then take an excursion into one particular habit to engage in- and that is to fulfill your creative URGE.

4. I speak of creativity and it’s connection to manifesting the life you want in every way, shape and form. I then begin to address some of the self-sabotaging phrases we all think and say and how to be aware of them and eventually reverse them as listed by the Intenders Handbook group. You can find more on them at http://www.intenders.com/. I get through most of the list but left some phrases for the next show to be archived for live and on-demand pleasure listening.

Throughout this show I play some delicious music I play include:
Kansas “Carry on my Wayward Child”, “Dust in the Wind” and
Billie Holiday “One for my Baby and One for the Road” so ENJOY!

I ask you email me with feedback and questions about this or any of my writings, radio programming, intuition sessions, singing and workshops at DianaN4839@aol.com

Feng Shui and Your Wealth

According to the ancient art of placement, moving certain objects in your environment affects you very directly positively or negatively.

I think we can all agree there is always a good time to focus on increasing our wealth. In this case we want to increase the financial flow in our lives. According to feedback I have received in the past, the good news is, working on your wealth corner in your home or office, makes a difference and increases your wealth. So for our purposes we will focus on the wealth corner. Money is flowing somewhere out there, so keep changing things in your wealth corner until you see the flow coming in.

I bet you have felt the pinch of the economic downturn. Where did all the wealth go? Well it’s still somewhere. The question is how do you keep the wealth flowing into your life.

Whether you are new to Feng Shui or practice the art of placement regularly, let's revisit it and watch abundance flow back in to our lives. This is a great opportunity accept it and express gratitude too. Also it is a chance to keep the flow moving by sharing and spending lovingly and wisely.

Use the Bagua (compass) above as a guide. Find the wealth corner in your home, office, desk or location of your choice. Once you are there, place what you want to manifest; cash, new work, or wealth in another form. It's important not to assign the Universe where the source is coming from. Let IT give you wealth and abundance from the source that is for the highest and greatest good of all. However, in the case where you simply want more cash use a red envelope (any one or feng shui one) and put money of any denomination, or coins in here.

The element for this is area wood. You can use anything made out of wood or even fresh plants. You can also place objects that are red, purple, blue in this area such as candles, decorative items, or anything signifying wealth. Place coins and images of money here as well.

You can also place a small water fountain here and have it represent wealth flow into your life.

Have fun and be creative.

Do not to let the North, South, East, West directions confuse you. Sometimes those who perform Feng Shui services have a strict rule about location, but that is a matter of training and tradition. The Universe works on Intent, not hard, human-made rules.

Again, enjoy and see what happens.

What is Belly Breathing

Take a deep Breath...

You will read and hear that when you do any physical fitness training, yoga or meditation practice it is suggested that breathing into your belly is very helpful in providing you with multiple benefits. You will have increased energy/prana, and become more self-aware, prevent fatigue, just to name a few. This belly breathing is often called diaphragmatic breathing because you engage your diaphragm instead of your neck or chest. Sometimes when we breathe using our neck and chest we simply don’t get enough oxygen into our lungs and may get light-headed, feel dizzy, fatigued, anxiety, headache and even hyper-ventilate.

When we practice belly breathing (the lower in the belly, the better), we get more oxygen into our lungs and start on the way to what we have referred to as PRANAYAMA—conscious breath control. This is practiced for various reasons including meditation, stress management, general health, as part of yoga practice and for spiritual centeredness.

So here is a simple way to begin belly breathing. Sit or lie down comfortably. First just notice your breath without trying to control it. You will realize that with inhalation your belly lifts and rises while your rib cage expands. Now consciously breathe in directly into your belly deeply but softly filling your lungs. Without holding your breath, gently releasing your breath back out. Do this as often as you can but it helps to do it on the regular basis as in when you first awaken or before bed. Start with a 1 to 5 minutes and work our way up when you are ready.

Here is are reminders of what your breath tells you on the regular basis:

Feeling relaxed, like when you are sleeping, your exhalation is twice as long as your inhalation.

Anger, your breathing is shallow. Imagine how little oxygen your brain is getting during this time.

Feeling frightened or anxious you tend to hold your breath. No oxygen = no good. So as I always say, breathe…

Stand Strong When Weary

As part of my work with Intuition, I always remind myself that my body, mind and spirit are connected. I do this by creating practices that keep the energy in my body moving in all of its forms. I encourage my clients, listeners and readers to do the same. Move at your level and within your limits always keeping open to stretching a bit beyond your boundaries to prevent plateau and inertia.

I practice yoga for various reasons and don't force it on anyone. For me yoga is a weaving of all aspects of life. There is the physical aspect of course. Then there is the emotional as you explore what your body/mind/spirit can and cannot do. And ultimately you have the truly spiritual aspect. I will say more of this in the future and have discussed in the radio programming on the http://www.centannibroadcasting.com/ and clicking on the Diana Navarro Show.

For today and for this moment I want to share TADASANA--or Mountain Pose.

This is my remedy for when I’m weak and weary. See if it works for you.
With one deep breath into your abdomen, stand with arms to your side and legs close together.

See in your mind’s eye, the soles of your feet. Plant them firmly on the floor them rock forward slowly forward then back into your heels. Repeat until you find your center. Sway from side to side until you find your center once again.

Breathe into your belly again.

Feel the weight of your body spread evenly throughout your body.

Gaze softly forward. After a few breaths bend knees gently and slowly and rise up.

Continue breathing and visualize your body strong and powerful, fully planted on earth. Gently tilt head lower, then slightly upward.

Stay in this position as long as you need to while remembering to breathe. When ready move slowly out of this position and back into the world.

Should You Get THAT Checked

Approximately two years ago I noticed a spot on my left calf. It bothered me because it didn’t “feel” or look right. I had my primary physician look at it during my yearly check-up but he wasn’t worried about it. As the months passed I did note that my mark, this excrescence, was getting larger and changing in shape. I finally scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist. She didn’t like the way it looked so I agreed to do a biopsy.

For three weeks I worried about the possibility this growth could be cancerous. Were my things in order? Was my Advanced Directive and Will updated? Was I living the life I wanted to live? Well the time came for me to get my biopsy results and I sat in the waiting room for nearly an hour with no word. I was asked several times if I was OK and offered water which was unusual for a follow-up medical exam. I got really nervous.

A few minutes later, I was finally called by my doctor and she asked if I was ready for the procedure to have the growth removed? “What?” I asked. “Does that mean it’s CANC--?”
She cut me off and told me, “Breathe. It is a benign growth, not cancer.” I was immediately relieved. However, the pathologist recommended the growth be completely removed as soon as possible, just to be sure. This growth which is technically called a dermatomyofibroma was unusually large and in an odd location of my body.

Apparently, this kind of growth would appear on a person’s upper body. I agreed I wanted it to be removed. This was on March 26th of this year. And I realized no matter how uncomfortable it is to have things checked by doctors sometimes, it is necessary to save one’s life at most and have peace of mind at least. A complete excision of the growth was done and I am recovering from the minor procedure. The only temporary set back was having stitches, minor discomfort and orders to modify my exercise for a couple of weeks. This is when having a trainer really comes in handy. So while I’m healing I’m working out my upper body, doing push-ups, and yoga. Once I’m back to normal I will resume my combination of full body strength training, cardio and yoga.

So do you have something you need checked out? A strange pain somewhere, an itch, an odd mark somewhere in your body, even if you don’t get much sun exposure? Do you have an ongoing cough, or headache that won’t go away? Or do you have a nagging feeling something may not be right in your body or mind like depression, or anxiety? Trust yourself and get it checked, especially if you are fortunate enough to have insurance. I know it’s not fun to get a colonoscopy, GYN exam, mammography, see a proctologist, or even getting a regular physical but the peace of mind and treatment possibilities may be worth it.

I have included some links for anything related to skin cancer should you want to check some information. Also, WebMD.com is very popular for checking many kinds symptoms and conditions. But most importantly, breathe and know you always have options. I’m not sure what I would be saying if my results were different, but I do know that the five years of quality time I got with my mother after her cancer diagnosis and treatment were cherished beyond words.

Here is some more information on general skin care. In addition to using sunscreen to prevent sun damage, there are other steps to take on order to minimize sun damage.

1. Keep skin hydrated, both inside and out by drinking plenty of liquids (preferably water) and using proper skin moisturizers.
2. Before heading out into the anywhere where you will have sun exposure, apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before. Also since sunscreen does not fully protect, consider carrying light layers of clothing to cover any vulnerable exposed skin.
3. If you want a glow, try self-tanners that are made for a variety of skin types.
4. Check any odd spots and remember that no matter what your skin color is, everyone is prone to getting sun damage. Additionally, other factors other than sun exposure can lead to skin growths, so check everywhere in your body (between toes, underarms, etc.), it’s better to be safe.

There is one more link for you to check www.skincancertakesfriends.org for information on how Olay had teamed up with the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery to sponsor free screenings with a dermatologic surgeon for a friend and you.

Helping Yourself Helps Others

Do you have a loved one you are caring for? Are you a natural helper, always helping others-family, friends, neighbors, co-worker's or even strangers? Have you lost a loved one and need help coping.

Perhaps you need to read this to encourage you to take care of yourself first. It is easy to become overwhelmed with grief, responsibilities and problem solving to the point of self neglect. But how can you help anyone if you are depleted? Take a moment to care for yourself, build your own reserves and see how much more manageable things can seem. Start with simple steps like taking breaks throughout the day for drinking water, breathing, eating meals and napping. Yes, napping.

In addition, it helps tremendously to find someone to speak to about your experience. Whether it’s a counselor, or a fellow caretaker, it helps to know that although your process is uniquely yours, you are not alone. I’ve included some links to get you started. But you are in charge so do your own search that better fits your needs should you decide to get the help the helper needs. Included are support links for those who are caring for animal companions or loss a pet. Sometimes it can be very lonely caring and grieving for pets, but this need not be.

Here are more web resources for you to check should you need them.

Your Introduction to Intuition

You are intuitive and this is your re-introduction to your innate intuitive abilities.

What is Intuition anyway?

Intuition is a sense of knowing, an accurate and reliable combination of inner and outer insight, wisdom and guidance. It is listening to our inner creator. Some believe we have an interconnection with the original source of creativity known by many names; The Field, Infinite Intelligence, the Collective Unconscious, Divine Intelligence, Tao, God, All That Is It, etc. This source can be distinguished from the inner critic or ego because it provides is benevolent truth and direction and is often associated with what we call gut feeling or 6th sense.

All of us are endowed with intuition which carries us through our lives. Some people have it more fine tuned than others. These persons can be called psychic, clairvoyant, fortune-tellers, sensitives, intuitives or simply gifted but in fact, it’s a skill that can be developed by anyone who is interested and dedicated to this very personal and powerful process.

Sometimes the incentive for accessing our intuition is when the use of logic, analytical thinking and the rational mind becomes insufficient in reaching our goals and aspirations and our access to creativity becomes blocked. That’s when accessing our intuition becomes necessary. It simply takes a desire and plan to kick it into action and heighten its use.

Sometimes the way to begin your journey is to work with an Intuition consultant, psychic, or sensitive. There is so much information out there. Take your time and don’t be overwhelmed. Everything has its timing. You can check my website http://www.workingthingsout.com/radio.html and listen to radio broadcasts on-demand under "Radio" for tons of information on the radio link on the site. And of course if you are interested in a consultation, feel free to contact me.
