Tips for Seeking the Paranormal and Ghost Hunting

Increased Interest in the Paranormal

There has been an enormous upsurge in the interest of paranormal phenomena in recent years. There have been many causes speculated, from the weakening of the base of traditional western Judeo-Christian spirituality to a reaction to the mobility of American society manifest as a longing to commune with long dead ancestors.

While the psychologists and sociologists continue to debate the issue, the popularity of so called ghost hunting continues to rise. For those who believe in such paranormal phenomena and are seeking to strike out on their own, consider this advice from top ghost hunters.

First, be sure to receive training from qualified ghost hunters before striking out on your own. According to professional ghost hunters, those who attempt to make contact with spirits without being reasonably prepared are at a risk to incur damage, either physically or, more likely, psychologically.

While some ghost hunters argue over whether or not spirits can physically harm humans, there is a strong consensus that an encounter for one who is not psychologically ready can leave lasting mental and emotional scars.

Most physical injury is caused by amateur ghost hunters fleeing the scene in the dark and running into or tripping over unseen obstacles. Seasoned ghost hunters suggest that you case the scene in the daylight before returning at night. Having a mental map of the area will help you to keep your bearings in the dark and can help you avoid injury.

Ghost hunters say that knowing the lay of the land is also helpful in case the situation becomes uncomfortable and you feel the need to quickly retreat. Being certain of the path out of the encounter area can lead to a feeling of greater control over the situation and can reduce the feelings of fear and panic that can occur. Keep your mind open and discover the darkness.

About all the Equipment

You have probably noticed that in all the ghost hunting shows and in everyday life those who dedicate themselves to this endeavor use all kinds of gadgets. The jury is still out on the effectiveness of some of these devices. Many believe that spirits, ghosts and other non-corporeal entities can not normally be detected with our five senses because they exist in a higher vibration. Most peole cannot perceive this area of existence. Animals have a way of hearing higher pitches, or seeing more of the electromagnetic spectrum than most humans. Some of this equipment is suppose to detect at those higher vibrations, be they electromagnetic frequency readers (EMF's) or cameras that have heat sensors, can detect ultraviolet area of the spectrum and /or sound recorders than can capture what we can't hear with the "naked" ear. These sounds are called electronic voice phenomenon or EVP. This has created a whole new market of equipment with all sorts of fancy claims. This field is rapidly evolving and with it scams and shams. This requires you to do a lot of research.

Basically, the best tool is a human being that is a "sensitive", which is a person who can perceive beyond the traditional five senses. More on this in my book.  Very often however, things occur that the average person can detect with just a regular camera, as in orbs (unexplained spherical objects that many believe are ghosts). I personally caught so many I decided I had to write a book about it showing real images (link below). Additionally, any recorder, whether it be digital or older versions can capture EVP's if there happens to be paranormal activity occurring.

The best advice I can give is, to engage in ghost hunting activity does have its risks so use caution. I suggest doing as much research as possible before doing any type of investigation. One has to know to protects oneself from any risk, including encountering something that can't be explained by traditional means. Unlike TV shows, it's not all fun and games. It is serious phenomenon we don't fully understand. It doesn't matter if you are a skeptic or believer, common sense should be used at all times.

Sturges Paranormal Investigates The (Haunted) Merchant's House Museum

Or Be Part of our LIVE audience.

When: TUESDAY LIVE at 6pm
What: Diana Navarro "Working Things Out" Show
Where:Broadcast LIVE from Giovanna's Restaurant
Join us at 1567 Lexington Ave (at 100th St)

About Our Guest
Dan Sturges from Sturges Paranormal re-joins us to discuss our experience while doing a Paranormal investigation of the Merchant's House Museum.

Dan is not only an incredibly talented actor who graduated from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, a recipient of the Spencer Tracy Scholarship and the Charles Jehlinger Award for acting but fortunately for us, an paranormal investigator.

He has been interested by the paranormal since childhood and worked extensively with various groups. Through years of extensive experience he created his own research groups including what is now Sturges Paranormal. Dan will discuss how his interest originated, some of his most interesting experiences, samples of what he's discovered and a surprise or two, including a example of an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon believed to be a disembodied voice of a spirit/ghost).

About This Show:
Dan Sturges joins me to discuss the paranormal investigation we did at the Merchant's House Museum with the Sturges Paranormal team. This incredibly professional team included Dan Sturges himself, Anthony Bellov who is on the Board of Directors of the Merchant's House Museum and paranormal investigator, Scott Stiffler who is the writer/reporter/investigator, Mike Gustavson team paranormal investigator and your cordial Working Things Out host, empath and intuitive consultant Diana Navarro.

The paranormal is being explored, discussed and experienced more than ever. I have the pleasure of dedicating the Diana Navarro Working Things Out Show on this topic. This is an exciting and provocative topic for believers and skeptics alike. Check the history of this place for yourself here www.merchantshouse.org

If you've ever asked or heard of these questions below, then you'll enjoy listening indeed.

What was that strange noise?

Did I just see something appear and disappear in front of my eyes?

Why do I suddenly feel chills all over my body?

Why do I smell perfume/cigar/my grandfather's cologne when no one else is here?

I could have sworn I saw something move with the corner of my eye!

Why us my dog/cat/bird acting strange and acting like something/someone else is around?

Is it just our imaginations, or is there an invisible but vibrant world co-existing with ours? Are we just beginning to scientifically verify what we have already sensed intuitively? Why has the supernatural, paranormal and ghost hunting become so popular lately?

Do you have an experience you cannot explain away with logic and rational thinking or is there a question you would like to ask? Email me now at Dianan4839@aol.com. We will have an ongoing discussion on the paranormal in future shows.
