Got an Air Diffuser to deal with Bad Neighbor's Smoking

Let me clarify what bad neighbor means

My neighbor isn't bad because she smokes. Like most smokers, she's addicted. I get that. She is bad because she is not a nice person and is causing all of us around her great distress. We, myself and other neighbors, have asked her nicely and semi-forcefully, even humorously, to please not smoke outside our apartment doors because it is filling our apartment with rancid cigarette smoke and, at least for me, aggravating my health issues. She flat out refused to change.

via GIPHY

The Relief

That left me scrambling for different ways of coping including making complaints. Since that is taking some time and frankly hasn't been effective, I have had to do some adjustments inside my home to try to cope. This included using my air purifier more frequently and purchasing an air diffuser.

Nothing can cancel out the toxins in the second-hand smoke completely. But at least it has allowed me to use aromatherapy to relieve some of my stress with the healing scents of essential oils. The one I purchased is Radha Beauty Air Diffuser as well as their therapeutic grade essential oils. It was a small investment that gave me some consolation.

Aromatherapy Top 8 Essential Oil and Diffuser Gift Set - Peppermint, Tea Tree, Lavender & Eucalyptus - Auto Shut-off and 7 Color LED Lights – Therapeutic Grade Oils by Radha Beauty

The Radha Beauty oils can be purchased as a set or separately, which I did because there were more of them, 18 to be exact. This is their essential oil product description:
"One of the many things we love about essential oils is their versatility. Our oils can be used individually or combined for aromatherapy, skin healing and conditioning, and even repelling insects! Great for traveling, gifts, or experiencing a little bit of everything in your oil collection. The set includes...lavender, tea tree, peppermint, lemongrass, orange, eucalyptus, rosemary, frankincense, lemon, bergamot, cedarwood, patchouli, geranium, pink grapefruit, cinnamon, oregano, clove, and clary sage."
Radha Beauty Aromatherapy 18 Essential Oils (Lavender, Tea Tree, Peppermint, Lemongrass, Orange, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Frankincense, Lemon, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Geranium, and more)

Obviously you don't need a nasty neighbor to try these since they are incredibly healing, pleasant and useful in many ways. But for me it does the trick until this issue is resolved.

Get on my list

How to use Rudeness to Make Yourself Someone People Want to Avoid, Dislike, Sue, Etc.

Over the past few years an epidemic of rudeness has swept the world. Here’s you will find some great ways how to perpetuate the disease. If you already do some of these, you are well on your track to being part of this bad mannered culture.

Many think they can just continue to get away with it or it's somehow a good thing to be nasty. The consequences are real and forthcoming for those misguided souls. But just for fun, let's look at these sure ways to be rude.

1) Ignore people.
  • Don’t return phone calls.
  • Never answer the phone. (ok I don't agree with this completely. I don't answer the phone often because of the type of work I do. But I do call back,  text, email and respond regardless).
  • Don’t listen when people talk to you.
  • Talk on your cell phone when with others, especially in restaurants or other public places.
  • Don’t acknowledge that others exist. The greatest insult that you can give someone is to ignore the person. If you excel at this skill you can skip the next four paragraphs.
2) Show disrespect. Make fun of others.
  • Assign stupid nicknames or deliberately mispronounce names.
  • Make people wait for you.
  • Laugh at other people’s mistakes, struggles, and fears.
  • Use sarcasm and cynicism freely.
  • Treat people like idiots. Disrespect is powerful because it strips people of their dignity.
3) Criticize. Find fault in everything.
  • Spread gossip. Complain about anything and everything.
  • Remind people about mistakes they made, even if decades ago.
  • If possible, embellish your complaints with exaggerated descriptions of failure.
  • Keep a written log of faults, flaws, and fumbles so you can grind on them daily.
  • Develop a whining tone to your voice. Critics reduce everything to dirt.

4) Be negative.
  • Master pessimism. Attack every change or new idea.
  • Always focus on failure. Expect the worst to happen.
  • Never accept or approve anything.
  • Refuse to participate or cooperate in any endeavor.
  • If something appears to work despite your efforts, cause delays so you can prepare fresh arguments against it. Aggressive gloom creates perpetual hopelessness.
5) Get mad.
  • Throw tantrums.
  • Scream.
  • Yell.
  • Shout.
  • Slam doors.
  • Hit walls.
  • Throw things.
  • Act violent.
  • Use accusations, insults, and threats to disrupt conversations.
  • Tolerate nothing.
  • Insist on retribution.
  • Always attack first.
  • Blame your anger on others. Unpredictable, insane behavior keeps other people off balance.
Caution: Application of these tactics guarantees that the need for attorneys will increase. To NOT use these or help others not use them contact me for coaching sessions.

Invisible Disability--The Sleep Disorder of Non-24

Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it don't hurt. ~This is Diana

Millions upon millions of people suffer every moment of every day from mental, physical, emotional and very real spiritual pain that is "invisible" or undiagnosed by the medical community and the common person. These are often called Invisible Disabilities.

"The term invisible disabilities refers to symptoms such as debilitating pain, fatigue, dizziness, cognitive dysfunctions, brain injuries, learning differences and mental health disorders, as well as hearing and vision impairments.  These are not always obvious to the onlooker, but can sometimes or always limit daily activities, range from mild challenges to severe limitations and vary from person to person." Source InvisibleDisablities.org

People with traditional visible disabilities face incredible social stigma in a addition to their health conditions. People look and see something wrong with certain individuals and can ascertain they have some limitations. They may see someone on a wheelchair, or a blind person with a assistance dog or cane, know someone is deaf from the physical expression a person may make or see that someone has Down's Syndrome from physical characteristics. There may be certain reactions to that person including empathy or compassion. Yes there are also negative reactions like fear, confusion and rudeness. The point is they can perceive the person has a limitation and make some conclusion from it.

Someone with an invisible disability as I have, will not show obvious outward signs. I often have to deal with having to explain to people over and over again what limitations I have. This includes physical, and emotional/mental conditions, and that is exhausting and frustrating.

Hence, in addition to the symptoms of ones condition, we have to deal with what bad-mannered, and ignorant family, colleagues and strangers are telling us which can include:

~just get help from a doctor or some other way (that clearly has not helped)
~you appear healthy, maybe you're just making it up or not as bad as you think
~for sleep disorders, try to keep a "normal" schedule, an impossibility for so many today
~(again sleep disorders) practice better sleep hygiene, a pet peeve of mine, assuming it's the sufferer's fault

I am writing about a series of these conditions because of first hand experience and experience of many of my intuitive coaching clients. The goal of these posts on invisible disabilities is to:

  • educate
  • clarity and
  • provide support in various ways, including validation and links, to all those suffering from a myriad of an invisible but very real condition

Let's talk about Non-24 (Hyperbychethemeral) Syndrome as an Invisible Disability
One of the invisible disabilities is some type of sleeping disorder. People are quick to minimize this for others or even themselves calling it simple insomnia. Insomnia is usually a short term problem getting restful sleep. But when the problem is chronic and severe it crosses into other areas including the one I'm about to discuss here called "Non-24" or Hypernychthermeral Syndrome. This is what is identified as a free-running circadian rhythm disorder.

To put it in simple words, this sleeping disorder occurs in many blind people but also in sighted people. For some reason, the regular 24 night/day rhythm is longer or not synchronized. I wrote another post on The Night Owl Syndrome, DSPS and ASPS. These are connected to a degree to which the rhythm is out of synch with normal 8 hour sleep schedules. You can refer to that for more details on that.

As awfully disruptive as this condition is, it is great relief and validating to find a name to what you are suffering from. Like this you can refer the well-meaning people in your life to the links, information, resources which are now available.

Treatment
The question of treatment for non-24 is still out for the jury in my opinion. There is a new medication being marketed now for this condition. I am not a huge advocate of using medication for every human ill. With that said I do not know enough about it to discuss it here so I recommend you do your own search and see what you find. In addition to medication it is recommended for some to try light therapy for non -blind persons, and the use of Melatonin which is a natural hormone your body makes. It can be vegetarian based supplements.

The importance of sleep cannot be emphasized enough. You need it for overall health and those who say "I'll sleep when I die" may just be closer to their goal by erroneously minimizing its importance.

I personally believe that a therapist and spiritual coach who understands sleep disorders can be extremely helpful in addition to support groups. Something to consider...there are many conditions if not all, that originally stem from a spiritual source. Addressing this can lead to clarity, answers and pave the path to full healing.

Bad Manners in Business including Artists, Musicians and Entertainers is a Huge Mistake

Too many people take business manners for granted. This is a huge mistake.

If you own any type of business that requires you to interact with others this post is for you.

This includes musicians, brick and mortar business owners, artists, event planners, those in entertainment, in traditional media, social media or any project where you want to sell a service or  produce...you are any entrepreneur...read on.

In Oh no you didn't I speak of this in more detail. For purposes of this post I have included some information to be considered if we are to create meaningful business relationships.

Business manners and etiquette is understood to be one basic rule: show consideration for the other business.

These edicts are for relationships between individuals, or between businesses and consumers. and an important group that has often been overlooked: business-to-business (B2B).

Business-to-business etiquette has to grow. It is an evolving behavior model for how to present oneself and represent one’s company when networking in general and online. It is for this group that etiquette plays the most crucial part. The slightest improper behavior online can ruin a good business opportunity.

Manners guidelines are being established no central source but through a collaborative process that grew from trial and error and general clamor for change in increasing courtesy to fellow business owners of various types, including artists and entertainers.

Business operators are eager to solicit prospects and partnerships in person or online but are generally ignorant about how to go about it professionally. Without knowledge of B2B etiquette, your actions can be taken for rudeness or incompetence, leaving the other party with a poor impression of your company.

Whether you solicit new partnerships or seek to maintain and build relationships with current businesses, the key is to prevent misunderstanding and not give offence. Lets see some examples:

Sending emails:
  • Fight the urge to be creative avoid using multiple fonts, size and colors. No HTML or rich media, either. Keep it all in plain text. This I learned the hard way. I was using a fancy program but many couldn't open the email or read it so what was the point?
  • Keep it punctual. Do not write a lengthy email and do not use jargon or talk with an overly hip attitude. For your signature file, do not use cute quotes (unless it happens to be the slogan of your business).
  • Watch your tone. Don’t speak in terms of how great you think your company is. Speak from the point of view of the other business to say, “Look what we can do for you.”
  • Size matters. Don’t tie up people’s email by sending large, unsolicited attachments. If you have to send a large file, give warning, check on a time most appropriate to send it, such as before or after regular working hours, or send it in segments.
  • Use discretion. Something that might seem funny to you might be patently offensive to someone else. Even if the person on the other end has no problem with what you’re sending, other people in their office could glance at the offending message. If you’re that inclined to show or tell the person what you have, ask for a non business email address you can send it to where they can review it with more privacy.

Requesting reciprocal links:

Planning to feature a hyperlink on your page to a business site? Proper etiquette involves giving the site owners notice. Explain why you would like to feature them on your site, where you plan to feature them, and the description you plan on using with their link.

If you’re soliciting another company to link to your site, provide some background information. Give a brief introduction, a description on your company, and how your site would be a benefit to the prospect’s audience.

Make sure your link has relevance to the other company’s site. If yours is a car company, you shouldn’t solicit a Web design company for a link. Offer something in return, such as a reciprocal link, that is, you linking to the other site as well, and/or some specific comments about that site.

It doesn’t leave the solicited with a good impression if you expect something and offer nothing. A generic link request is about the worst thing you can do. It shows you have nothing to say about the site, and yet you expect its operator to do something for you.

Asking for free advice:

There’s nothing wrong with asking your colleagues for advice. However, expecting free business advice from people you don’t know personally – and for your own business gain – is a very touchy issue. This happens to me personally all the time regarding my intuitive consultations and I have to continually refer people to my site for them to see what I offer as a professional.

If you are set on asking a company or an individual whom you have never met for advice, handle yourself with the greatest care.

1. Introduce yourself.

2. Give your profession and or skill background. If you are a student, mention where and what you are studying.

3. Explain why you need the advice and how you plan to use it

4. To make a better impression, mention an interest in the person’s site or works, and what you found there to be helpful or interesting. Most importantly, before you ask people for advice, search that person’s Web sites first – then the search engines and directories – to see if the answer is already available to you.

Even if the business does not have the answer readily available, showing that you put in an effort will make its owners more open to referring you to another site that might have the information you seek.

Requesting business services:

If you are soliciting another business to provide you with services, it is incredibly rude to expect a work commitment without a contractual arrangement. Some common examples are:
  • Telling a business owner to look at your Web site or your other online works, and asking what would improve them.
  • Expecting business owners to create a few samples so they can wait for your decision.
  • Offering to pay for work based on increased revenue, such as pay for performance. If you want some assurance as to work and service quality, look at a portfolio and ask for references.
It's common sense. B2B etiquette means knowing how to present yourself online with the same degree of formality and professionalism you would in a face-to-face meeting.

The next time you attempt relations with a new business, stop to think how the person on the other end is likely to receive your communication. Put yourself in those shoes and ask, “What kind of impression do I make?”

Are You Seeing the Big Picture When it Comes to Your Business?

The Importance of the “Big” Picture in Business

There is good news and bad news. The bad news first. We are in a period where doing traditional 9 to 5 work just isn't enough to live a healthy, abundant life. The good news is that there is opportunity to find your purpose and niche when things are bleak around you. You have talents and skills to share, now is the time to start doing it to supply you with the life you desire.

When you’re starting a business, seeing the “big” picture is important. Many entrepreneurs have stated that had they looked at the small details in their business they may not have started the business in the first place.

This is because many of us get bogged down by all the small details and often it can put us off starting something new.

If you’re starting a new venture, here are a few tips to help you stay focused on the “big” picture:

#1 – Don’t Worry. It’s easy to worry about the fine details of starting a business. But it’s important not to get stuck on these. Keep in mind that whatever you don’t know how to do, you can learn or get help with. In business, there are services and experts for just about anything you can imagine. You can always turn to them for help when the time comes. But as the old saying goes – “I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.”

#2 – Concentrate on your big goals. Instead of worrying about all the small details, write down your big goals. If you’d like to launch your new product in two months’ time, aim for that. If you’d like to start offering a new service, aim for that. Once you have your big goal in place, all the small details will fall into place.

#3 – Make sure it will work. Saying “don’t worry about the small details” doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t thoroughly research your venture. It just means that you’ll put your efforts into researching your market to ensure that your new venture stands a good chance of being profitable. There are certain big things like target market, product approach and finding customers that warrant your attention.

Other smaller issues like how to set up a product in a shopping cart or what payment processor to use can be worked out in due time.

#4 – Just do it. In business, speed often pays off. If you have a great idea, research it quickly and put the necessary steps in place to take action on that idea. Good business insight often means being open and receptive to the opportunities and ideas that are all around us. Had many successful entrepreneurs sat on the fence for too long, we may not have such wonderful innovations today. Remember if you don't do it, someone else will, which is bad manners but happens. So go forward fearlessly.

Seeing the big picture in business is a skill which can really lead to success. And even if you’re a “small details” type of person, by following these steps you’ll stand a better chance of adapting to a “big picture” mentality.

This applies to business and other areas in your life. Remember there is a web of interconnection out there. Take one step at a time, no matter how small and you will move in the right direction.

My Quest To Bring Common Sense Manners Back Because Rudeness Sucks

The Quest to Bring Manners Back Because Rudeness Sucks!

This is Diana is Available for: Commentary, Interviews, and Interactive Storytelling

Who would’ve thought that someone born and raised in the South Bronx would have the life purpose of being on a quest to bring common sense manners back? No? Well, how rude of them!

I’ve always dreamt of a harmonious world where everyone is happy, friendly, courteous and vibrant. Clearly this isn’t the world we actually live it. It’s a big world with lots of people and many don’t have manners which can lead to all kinds of everyday societal problems. These can range from small irritations to full blown violence.
I’m an Intuitive Empath who has worked with thousands of people as a crisis counselor, college advisor, business/relationship consultant, spiritual coach, commentator, and writer.

My most passionate project is the completion of a book and project (one-woman storytelling performance) called “Oh No You Didn’t- A Quest to Bring Common Sense Manners Back, Part 1 I See Dumb People and Part 2 Stand Clear of the Loco Trains©”.

Through my work, I share many stories I have experienced or witnessed that show examples of lack of manners and rudeness along with its possible consequences. I do it however with a mix of seriousness and humor to get the various points across.

Consider these everyday instances:
  • Someone who sneezes or coughs all over you and a week later you're sick
  • A smoker who puffs the smoke right at your direction
  • Your on a date and the person picks up their ringing mobile phone, three times!
  • You are walking on a busy street and someone bangs really hard into you and just keeps on walking leaving you bruised and stunned.
  • You open the door for someone and they just glide right in without saying thank you or acknowledging your presence.
  • You are with your romantic partner in a restaurant, you go to the restroom and a woman waits for you to leave to hit on him/her
  • You need to use the 1 person restroom but can't go in because someone is in there on a phone call.

This is for those who are dealing with rude people know they are not alone in their frustration and have the desire for a better way. This is also for those who are being rude to know, what they are doing is not welcomed, acceptable and will no longer be tolerated without some consequence (e.g. exposure, reprimand, even legal action for what leads to violence).

Take a 1 question survey and get a FREE ebook with email sign-up
http://www.thisisdiana.com/#!social-forum/c1tzi

There are other works and books out there but I find them a bit dry and the attempts at humor forced because the authors limited connection with a more diverse audience. They also leave out the very important examples of what can go very wrong if we don’t heed manners. This misses a huge market of everyday people. I talk to people from all walks of life who constantly share their desire for more manners. My book and through my social media and promotion will reach this wider audience with real life examples, humor, and stories that happen all the time.

I want others to join my quest and via common sense manners create harmony and decrease violent incidents exploring one Oh No Moment at a time.

If you would like more information on me and my quest please do contact me. I am of course on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Youtube, Google+, Pinterest, Blogger, and BlogTalkRadio and all can be accessed via my website: www.thisisdiana.com and

It's a Sin to Steal

UPDATE: I wrote this blog as the beginning of my quest to bring manners back. It drives me crazy to be or see others victimized.

Go here for more information and join the quest to bring beauty into the world and end rudeness too!

Good economy, bad economy, to take something that does NOT belong to you is wrong at every level.

This applies to money, physical property, intellectual property, and stealing another person's romantic relationship who is involved with someone else.

What motivates anyone to take something that isn't inherently theirs, or they didn't earn? Greed, exhilaration of getting away with it, desperation? The answer is...who cares? Energy is energy and once someone knowingly takes something from someone else, that is sure to some how equal out one way or the other and in its own time.

Recently, I got an email from my bank saying there was a fraud alert. Well, sure enough someone got access to my checking debit card info and decided to help themselves to some gaming merchandise. This caused my card to be blocked for my protection but a huge inconvenience and most important, a sense of violation.

I ask again...who sits there and decides to happily use something that isn't theirs?

ATM Skimming is bigger than ever
http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/8-ways-protect-against-atm-skimming-1282.php

Not too much longer after the above incident I got another bank alert ( I was fortunate to have a bank that does this) saying my balance was low. I check and there are tons of purchases to fast food in Europe. I haven't traveled to Europe and I don't eat fast food. It turns out someone, somewhere, got my account information. I am careful when I put my password in but there are so many chances to have your info stolen it's bound to happen. This isn't to scare you but to ask you to look at your purchases carefully. If you see a small amount that you don't recognize as in a $1 or $ 3 purchase, that is a test from the thieves to see if your account is active. Next, they wipe you out completely...

*Like my Facebook page and stay in touch with me on Facebook

Please not my work on manners  and my projects with "Oh No You Didn't" will include huge segments on those who steal. There will much information including what to look out for to protect yourself from various types of stealing. Thieves are getting more creative, we need to be more vigilant and savvy!
